Global Design Studio 2021
This project was developed during a two-week design sprint between LCC, Elisava and RMIT. We conceptualised a concept in response to the Global Design Studio brief entitled "Ideas for Humanity – A Cookbook for Planetary Health". The goal was to create innovative, design-led solutions to pressing ecological challenges by crafting actionable "recipes", focusing on sustainability and envisioning a more regenerative future for humanity and the planet. The final concepts were later showcased at the 2021 Barcelona Design Week and the Melbourne Design Festival.
Our concept explored the question of what if we treat objects as humans and give them IDs. By imagining a world where objects are imbued with individuality and human-like identities, we aimed to challenge the disposable culture of modern consumerism and promote a deeper sense of responsibility and care toward the items we use daily.
The moka pots used in the design, commonly associated with routine and consumption, acted as a metaphor for the mundane objects we often take for granted, highlighting how even the most ordinary items might be reimagined with individuality and value if seen through this lens. We decided to overlay text that repeats and partially obscures the objects to emphasise the tension between our current way of seeing objects and the alternative perspective we propose.
